Hamakua Coast Realty

Hamakua coast realty offers the most untouched, hard-to-find land deals on the entire big island. Translated as “breath of god,” Hamakua is the region between Hilo and Waipio, and is the district on the northeastearn coast of the Big Island. Legend has it that it was in Waipio Valley, “the land of the falling water”, that the great King Kamehameha, as a youngster, received his leadership training and first learned surfing.

Presently, this gorgeous place is adorned by family ohanas, houses, and is separated by a river that leads to the open sea. Local farmers and their families continue to get their source of living from farming taro and fishing off the sandy shores of this peaceful and remote valley floor. Small communities of the Hamakua regions include Paauilo, Laupahoehoe and Kukuihaela, and are situated outside of the Waipio Valley and the town of Honokaa. Fortunately, its local culture has survived and continues to be a rich feature on this part of the Big Island.

Several little towns sprang up around sugar plantations which were operating along the Hamakua coast from around the turn of the 20th century until approximately 1990, notably Honokaa, the largest. Indeed, it is a wise investment to buy a property along this regal coast – whether you’re looking for an ocean view home, a ranch estate or a fine residence. All offer the traditionally tropical climate with rain forests, waterfalls and high cliffs overlooking the ocean.

Spending any time in Hamakua is a treat, but owing a home is what would make life so much wonderful. Check out the Hamakua coast realty and learn how you can be part of this little paradise here on Earth.

Hamakua Coast Realty

If you are in the market for a tropical waterfront property without prices that are extremely out of reach, Hamakua Coast Realty might be exactly what you are searching for. Located on the northeastern waterfront portion of the Big Island of Hawaii, the Hamakua coast stretches 45 miles from Honoka’a (where the 1st macadamia nut tree in Hawaii was planted) in the North to Hilo in the South, encompassing a number of small towns, districts and villages including parts of Hamakua and North and South Hilo.

The land is best for agriculture. The land used to be sugar plantations, mostly. But at present, diverse crops like papaya, orchids, ginger, eucalyptus, macadamia nut and coffee abound the area. The neighboring small towns provide the daily necessities of life. This is where old Hawaii still lives.

The topography of the Hamakua Coast is rugged: streams, cliffs, deep valleys and the occasional small beach characterize the landscape. Located on the windward side of the island, the Hamakua Coast experiences significant rainfall. The Akaka Falls, the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden (a tropical rainforest that is part of Onomea Bay), the World Botanical Gardens with the Umauma Falls, Kolekole Beach Park, Honolii Beach Park, Kalopa State Park, Kolekole Beach Park, Kolekole Beach Park, Laupahoehoe Train Museum and Waipio Valley are just some of the coast’s finest tourist spots.

In 1991, virtually all of the sugar cane companies sold their Hamakua Coast real estate. The initial buyers were real estate moguls who knew a good investment when they saw it. Lately, they have started offering smaller parcels of these giant landholdings. Small farms and homes on sizeable lush lots are available. Fascinatingly, the Hamakua Coast Realty is among the handful of Hawaiian places where tropical acreage in large land parcels is still available.

While still overwhelmingly rural, the Hamakua Coast is developing. The villages and towns of Wailea, Hakalua, Honomo, Pepe’ekeo, Laupahoehoe as well as Honoka’a still are the population centers. A decade ago, Honoka’a was a depressed economic area, a plantation town that had just endured the closing of its sugar mill. Today, Honoka’a is home to over 2200 people who enjoy its elevation and the gentle weather it brings. Also, the town is beginning to become the home of fine restaurants, cafes, galleries as well as theaters.

Prior to investing on anything, always seek the guidance and advise from professionals. As such, the Big Island Land Company can truly help you – its people specialize on Hamakua Coast Realty. The Big Island Land Company can address your every real estate need – whatever it may be.
